We now have a dilemma.
Do we do the “smart” thing and continue to let someone else pay off our mortgage? Or do we sell, take the money and run, effectively severing all ties to our beloved Nederland. Whichever path we choose, it should involve a trip to Europe at the end of January.
Thoughts?

p.s have been inspired by Dooce to provide update letters to Annabel. She writes a letter to her daughter every month. Sounds cheesy but it’s actually fantastic to follow: http://www.dooce.com I’m going to try yearly because a) I can’t write - check out her site and you’ll see what I mean and b) I have a job and a baby which is severly limiting my self obsession time.

Market is dead here, nobody is buying.. rent if for another year then take even more money…

Do not sell at the moment; due to the financial crisis, the housemarket is going down. Houses are now sold for a lower price and the interest on mortgage has increased. Rabobank decreased the interest this week with 0,25% now I believe the interest rate stands at an average of 5,25%. People who want to sell their house are waiting quite some time > 6 months…..

I am one of these strangers that happened on your blog (I can’t even remember how I came to your blog now, I think it was through some Expat interview website or something.
Its been extremely interesting / informative / entertaining reading through your blog as I am also an Aussie (but from Perth) that has been living in Holland for about 1.5 years.
My Dutch still suck big time, and much like you (were) I am already planning my reintergration back into Australia with my partner, although it will still be a few years away.
Anyway, thanks for the great blog and sharing your experiences. Congratulations on the new born.
